Bottas: The loads on the brakes are lower, and everything should be OK.
In his time, Valtteri Bottas, when racing for Mercedes, stood on the podium in Silverstone four times and even started from pole in 2019. But now, as a driver for the new Cadillac F1 team, he obviously has to tackle different, much more modest challenges in terms of results, yet no less complex – it’s enough to recall that he has failed to finish due to various technical problems in three consecutive races.
Valtteri Bottas: “I was very lucky, I stood on the podium several times in Silverstone and I remember those completely indescribable impressions. The track is just beautiful, racing here is fun and interesting, and the race weekend feels more like a festival than a Grand Prix.
So many people gather here to have a great time, and the fans in the stands support not only the British drivers but all the participants in the race. Silverstone has such powerful energy, so I always love coming back here.
In preparation for this weekend, our team made a number of changes to the car's design to eliminate cooling issues, but in any case, the loads on the brakes at this track are much lower, so everything should work fine here. However, we should already be preparing for the next four races, and it can be assumed that, for example, we might face difficulties in Hungary.
Definitely, since we couldn’t finish in the last three races, this creates serious problems, but the team continues to work hard to sort everything out and keep moving forward. The technical innovations introduced by Cadillac at the previous stage of the season will help us gain speed in Silverstone as well. And although this track is of a completely different type, the small package of updates that worked well in Austria should work here too.”
