Formula 1 is ready for a "perpetual" contract with Silverstone.
In the run-up to the British Grand Prix, the owners of the Silverstone circuit received an offer to discuss a new contract that would allow the race to be held "forever." Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is impressed that 565,000 spectators will visit Silverstone over the four-day weekend – that's 45,000 more than the attendance record set in Adelaide 31 years ago. A total of 175,000 tickets have been sold for the Sunday race, which is also a new record.
Stefano Domenicali: "I am ready to discuss a new contract. We just need to sit down at the table and start negotiations. Silverstone deserves to always be on the calendar. There is no other place in the UK, neither Brands Hatch nor Donington, that has the necessary capacity for Formula 1. We have become too big.
They handle the minimization of any logistical issues related to such a large number of incoming people very well – and that's great!
This doesn't mean that Silverstone shouldn't strive to improve the quality of services offered every year. This is Formula 1. They can't rest on their laurels, relying on their traditions, but in recent years they have realized the need to provide fans with the best product."
