Norris: I want to race for McLaren for as long as possible.
Lando Norris acknowledged that there is another team he would like to race for, but insists that he is currently fully focused on continuing his collaboration with McLaren and does not rule out staying with them "forever."
Norris made his debut with the Woking team in 2019, secured his first victory in Miami in 2024, and became world champion last season. Statistically, he has already set the record for the number of races held for McLaren, and he has a long-term contract with the team, the duration of which he did not disclose.
Lando participated in the Beyond the Grid podcast and here’s what he said in response to the question of whether he could race for McLaren for the rest of his career:
"It’s very possible, as I don’t know how long I will stay in Formula 1. My contract is for years ahead, so I know that I won’t part ways with this team anytime soon. I don’t even know… If I do want to move somewhere, there is only one such team that I would be interested in collaborating with, but that could only happen in a very distant future.
Right now, I am focused solely on collaborating with McLaren; I feel that this is my family, and I want to race here for as long as possible to achieve as much as I can – maybe another five, maybe ten years. I am very proud to say that…
My goal is to stay with McLaren forever, but I also love to win. And even if I’m not winning races – you know, I haven’t been able to do that for six years – I just want to enjoy my work. I could move to other teams, but I haven’t done that…
I will try to do everything in my power, and even if I’m not winning, it doesn’t mean that I want to move somewhere. I just want to be with the people I enjoy collaborating with, and that’s the only thing that truly matters to me.
I still crave victories. I believe there are some things in life that you only need to try once, and you want to do it again and again. Certainly, you get used to success; it’s like a drug, and you definitely feel that thrill when you win trophies and celebrate with the team – it’s all incredibly amazing!
I think that stays with you forever. That’s why Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are still competing in the championship – because they know that feeling…"
