Do Audi's political maneuvers put pressure on Hulkenberg?

"I think he needs to exercise some caution."

Nico Hulkenberg's position at Audi is reportedly turning into another narrative to observe in Formula 1's expanding driver market. German journalist Ralf Bach mentioned to f1-insider.com that internal dynamics, rather than mere performance concerns, could pose challenges for the seasoned German driver. "I sense there is a bit too much politics happening at Audi," Bach remarked. "You have the Swiss faction and then the Germans. I don’t get the impression they are all aligned." Bach even indicated that 38-year-old Hulkenberg's standing might be diminishing, particularly as he has frequently been outshined this season by younger teammate Gabriel Bortoleto. "I think that perhaps even Nico Hulkenberg may encounter difficulties for these reasons," he stated. "Hulkenberg is no longer as favored by the team management, especially by Mattia Binotto, as he might have been last year. I think he needs to be a bit cautious." These remarks come as Carlos Sainz continues to be mentioned in connection with a potential move to Audi for 2027, having informed Williams not to rush into contract discussions until the summer break.
