F3: Ugochukwu won the sprint in Silverstone
Ugo Ugochukwu won the Saturday sprint in Silverstone. Along with him on the podium were Sri Lankan driver Evan David and Ugochukwu's Campos Racing teammate Theophile Nael.
Saturday morning greeted the Formula 3 participants with cloudy but dry weather. By the start, the air had warmed up to +19°C, and the asphalt temperature was +26°C.
Pole holder Ugo Ugochukwu maintained his lead at the start, although on the straight before the 6th corner, Evan David, who started second, attempted to make an attack.
Theophile Nael had a good start to the race, moving up from 11th to 8th place, overtaking Ernesto Rivera, Louis Sharp, and Fionn McLaughlin. Noi Stromsted and Matteo de Palo took turns overtaking Maciej Gladysh, moving up to fifth and sixth places, respectively.
Ugochukwu began to create a gap, and on the second lap out of eighteen, he set the fastest time. However, David did not let the championship leader go and stayed less than a second behind the Campos driver.
The top ten gradually spread out on the track, but active actions began on the eighth lap. James Wharton made an attack on Alessandro Giusti and moved into third place. On the next lap, Giusti lost two more positions, letting Stromsted and de Palo pass.
On the tenth lap, Nael managed to overtake Gladysh in the battle for seventh place, albeit with some difficulties. On the same lap, in the Maggotts and Becketts corner sequence, he overtook Wharton and climbed to sixth place. On the eleventh lap, de Palo passed James. Behind, Giusti continued to lose positions.
On the twelfth lap, Nael moved up to fifth place. Ahead, there was a slight contact between Stromsted and de Palo in the fight for third place at the 16th corner – the drivers maintained their positions.
Theophile took advantage of the battle between the Trident drivers and on the fourteenth lap overtook de Palo, moving up to 4th place. However, Matteo did not back down, and on the sixteenth lap, he made a counterattack, regaining his position, and then passed Stromsted as well.
On the last lap, Nael attacked Stromsted in the 7th corner and moved ahead. Exiting the last corner, Theophile managed to pass de Palo, climbing onto the podium.
Ugo Ugochukwu confidently brought the race to victory, finishing 17 seconds ahead of Evan David, who not only reached the podium for the first time but also earned his first points in Formula 3. For Ugochukwu, this victory was his second of the season and allowed him to further strengthen his lead in the championship standings.
Theophile Nael climbed onto the podium for the third time this season and reduced the gap to Freddy Slater in the championship standings in the battle for second place. As for Slater, he earned points for seventh place.
