Domenicali announces additional sprint races set for 2027.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has confirmed that the sport will enhance its sprint program starting in 2027. This announcement follows the earlier confirmation that Monza will host sprint weekends for the next three seasons from 2027. Reports indicate that the number of sprint events may increase from the current six to as many as ten.

"If you remember the early days, there was a lot of skepticism about our initiatives," Domenicali told Sky Sports. "However, I believe it's our duty to be daring, to explore new methods, and not shy away from pushing boundaries. The impact is already evident. With 150,000 fans in attendance at Silverstone on Friday, it would have been a missed opportunity not to provide them with more action on the track. This is why I think sprints are the right direction to take."

Domenicali mentioned that the updated sprint calendar will be announced alongside Formula 1's 2027 schedule. "We are already in the process of announcing additional sprint events for the future," he stated. "This announcement will come soon when we reveal the calendar. Stay tuned for more updates."

The Italian also hinted that the complete 2027 calendar will be disclosed "very, very soon," noting that Portimao is expected to be included, while there are hopes for Istanbul's return to the championship. Meanwhile, Zandvoort is set to be dropped from the schedule, and from 2028, Barcelona will enter a rotation with Spa.
