Red Bull explained why they disagreed with Max.
After a disappointing qualifying session in Silverstone, Max Verstappen told the team that he would like to change the settings of his RB22, as he was experiencing speed issues and lost in qualifying to Isaac Hadjar, also mentioning possible engine problems. Changing the settings would have violated the conditions of the parc fermé and resulted in a pit lane start, but the team did not agree to this. Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies explained why the team did not accept their driver's proposal... Laurent Mekies: "After qualifying, it became clear that we, to put it mildly, were not very happy with the balance, but changing the car's settings would have led to a pit lane start. We understood that starting the race with an unstable balance would be challenging. Nevertheless, we believed that it would yield a better result than starting from the pit lane with possibly a better balance. We discussed this matter with Max. I acknowledge that he may have a different opinion, as he is the one behind the wheel. Sometimes our positions diverge, although important information can be gleaned from his statements. In the race, the car behaved roughly the same as in qualifying; we encountered limitations that we were aware of, but I am not at all sure that we would have been in third place until the breakdown if we had started from the pit lane."
