Smedley: Ferrari should bet on Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc occupy third and fourth places in the individual standings, each having one victory to their name. Hamilton is 32 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli, while Leclerc is 71 points behind. In the High Performance Racing podcast, former Ferrari race engineer Rob Smedley expressed the opinion that Ferrari should bet on Hamilton if they want to compete for the title in the individual standings in 2026. Rob Smedley: "I 100% agree that during the race in Silverstone, Ferrari should have swapped their drivers. Now I will go against my own logic and say that I actually believe: such a radical step is the only chance for Ferrari to win the title this year. If they try to simply outpace Mercedes through car speed and then allow their drivers to race each other, with such a large points difference between Lewis and Charles, the likelihood of winning the individual standings will significantly decrease. Therefore, although this contradicts my logic, the question arises: why do it at all? I think that betting on one driver is the only strategy that can really give Lewis a chance to win the title this season."
