Mekis: RB17 – the true embodiment of Adrian Newey's genius
The hypercar RB17 has become Adrian Newey's last creation for Red Bull, and we reported on the premiere of this amazing machine on the track at Goodwood.
The RB17 runs will continue throughout the Festival of Speed, and today Laurent Mekies, the head of the Red Bull Racing team, spoke about it.
Laurent Mekies: "This car was supposed to make an impression visually and seem very fast, but reality has exceeded all expectations. The RB17 was meant to be a kind of innovation laboratory, and you could say that every element of the car has an incredible development story, as the task was to overcome various technological barriers.
This is possible when you are not limited by any rules and regulations, which is why the car has become a true embodiment of Adrian's genius and a demonstration of the engineering capabilities of the Red Bull Group. We always strive to achieve the unattainable, to do what others do not dare to do. Now we just need to check what speeds the RB17 hypercar is capable of on a real racetrack, but we must be patient.
Goodwood is the perfect place to showcase such a car, where it can be seen in action for the first time, and yesterday the audience reacted incredibly enthusiastically when Adrian drove the RB17 up the hill climb, which was a great reward for all the tremendous efforts that the Red Bull specialists put into creating this hypercar. And we can't wait to take it to the racetracks of the world."
When Laurent was asked if he would drive the RB17, the team leader from Milton Keynes cheerfully replied: "Perhaps it would be better for everyone if I didn't do that! Today this car is being driven by Yuki Tsunoda, and tomorrow and Sunday Isaac Hajar will take the wheel and try to set a good time on the hill climb track.
Isaac is doing quite well in his debut season with Red Bull Racing, although we understand that being a driver for such a team is quite a challenging task. But he has already fully integrated with the team, is doing everything very correctly, learning from the team, from Max Verstappen, and we see that he is progressing with each race."
