Barcelona provides assistance with the F1 calendar while Turkey waits.
"If they request our assistance, we will provide it."
Barcelona has expressed its willingness to intervene if Formula 1 requires another replacement race, as pressures on the 2026 calendar intensify. The championship aims to maintain a minimum of 22 races following the cancellations of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but escalating conflict in the Middle East casts doubt on Bahrain's return. With Qatar and Abu Dhabi still scheduled for later this year, Formula 1 is reportedly considering backup plans. Although Istanbul has shown renewed interest, reports indicate that the circuit needs upgrades before it can host a Formula 1 event again. The favored option appears to be a second race at an existing track, like Baku or Singapore, though teams are said to be hesitant about this proposal. Should a completely new replacement be needed, Portimao, Imola, and Barcelona are seen as viable European alternatives. Miquel Samper, the regional business minister of Catalonia, stated that Barcelona would be prepared to assist, emphasizing the city's capability after it successfully hosted a major MotoGP event in just eleven days due to the Dana storm.
