Barcelona provides assistance with the F1 calendar while Turkey remains patient.
"Should they request our assistance, we will provide it."
Barcelona has expressed its willingness to intervene if Formula 1 requires another replacement race, as the 2026 calendar faces increased challenges. The championship is aiming to maintain a minimum of 22 races following the cancellations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, but ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have cast doubt on Bahrain's return. With Qatar and Abu Dhabi scheduled later this year, it is believed Formula 1 is considering backup plans.
While Istanbul has again shown interest, reports indicate that the circuit would need upgrades before it could facilitate a Formula 1 event once more. The favored alternative seems to be an additional race at a current venue, such as Baku or Singapore, although teams are reportedly not very enthusiastic about this proposal.
If a completely new substitute is needed, Portimao, Imola, and Barcelona are all viewed as viable European options. Miquel Samper, the regional business minister of Catalonia, stated that Barcelona is prepared to assist. "When the Dana storm necessitated the relocation of the Valencian MotoGP, Barcelona demonstrated that it could organize one of the most remarkable races in history in just eleven days," he told Diario Sport. "If they ask us, we will help them."
