Cadillac evaluates Herta not by his results in Formula 2.
Last year, Colton Herta retired from IndyCar and joined the Cadillac team as a test driver in hopes of debuting in Formula 1. In 2026, the American driver is competing in Formula 2, and the results leave much to be desired, which Colton himself acknowledges. However, the head of the Cadillac program in Formula 1, Dan Tauris, stated that the team does not evaluate Herta based on his results in Formula 2, and they focus primarily on his work with the team in the simulator and during Friday practice sessions. Dan Tauris: "For Colton, the main task was to learn, get familiar with the tracks, and understand the characteristics of the tires. And that is exactly what he is doing now. Of course, there have been challenges along the way, and the results have not been what we hoped for. But I think that was to be expected. That is the nature of Formula 2 and, to be frank, the current level of the Hitech team. I hope that moving forward, he will be able to fully demonstrate what he is capable of. But at the same time, we are already getting what we needed. He is learning everything he needs to learn. In addition to competing in Formula 2, Colton is working a lot on the Formula 1 simulator and has already completed his first practice session. In that session, he accomplished everything the team asked of him. There is another practice session ahead in Hungary, and we will continue to accumulate the necessary experience that will show he is ready to transition to Formula 1."
