Komatsu acknowledges that Bearman's future is "beyond our control."
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu acknowledges that Oliver Bearman's future in Formula 1 is largely beyond the team's control amid intensifying rumors connecting the British driver with Red Bull and Ferrari. Bearman is seen as a potential candidate to succeed Max Verstappen if the Dutch driver decides to leave Red Bull, while there are opinions suggesting that Ferrari would prioritize its own junior driver should Lewis Hamilton depart the sport.
Komatsu points out that Haas can only strive to persuade Ferrari to keep Bearman with them. "We’re clearly focused on what we can do regarding Ollie’s contract," he mentioned. "However, his contract is associated with Ferrari. If we perform well and Ollie excels, we will certainly want to retain him, but ultimately, that decision is not ours. Therefore, we’re concentrating solely on what we can manage."
The American team is also rumored to be considering several drivers for 2027, with growing speculation around Esteban Ocon’s future and mentions of Ferrari junior Rafael Camara among others. Komatsu emphasizes that no final decisions have been reached. "We’re entirely dedicated to maximizing what we can get from our current two drivers," he stated. "We fully support Esteban. That’s our primary focus at this time."
He also refuted claims that Ferrari is pressuring Haas to elevate Camara. "Let’s be clear: while Rafa is performing well, Ferrari is not exerting any pressure on us to sign him or anything similar. We are selecting drivers based on their performance. The driver who performs the best will be the one we choose."
