"It is against the rules to insult another competitor."

Carlos Sainz has advised teenage world championship leader Kimi Antonelli to "calm down" after their incident during Friday's practice at Spa. Antonelli felt that the Williams driver had affected his flying lap, while Sainz argued that the Mercedes youngster was overreacting.

"I guess nowadays if you don’t get out of the way exactly how the driver behind wants, you can’t turn properly because you lack enough downforce with the wings open," Sainz stated. "And maybe he thought I could have moved aside more effectively, but I don't believe it's right for him to call me an idiot over the radio."

Sainz opined that Formula 1 drivers should refrain from publicly insulting each other. "I think it’s against the rules to insult another competitor, so he should take it easy," remarked the 30-year-old, who is a director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association.

Antonelli's emotional reaction caught some observers off guard, as the 19-year-old has gained a reputation for his calm and approachable demeanor during his breakout championship season.

Formula 1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali noted that this image has helped Antonelli and the sport connect with a younger audience. "I’m proudly Italian, and seeing Italian elements taking a leading role in Formula 1 is very gratifying," he told Sky Italia at Spa. "Kimi’s impact on the young audience is clear. His freshness, spontaneity, and the way he enjoys these successes have attracted new fans."
