Hadjar remains stable at Red Bull despite uncertainty surrounding Verstappen.
Isack Hadjar now seems increasingly likely to stay at Red Bull through 2027, despite ongoing speculation surrounding the future of his teammate Max Verstappen. Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised Hadjar's professionalism and development in an interview with Bild at Spa, and the French driver followed up with what Mekies considered his best race for the senior team on Sunday.
"The car was undoubtedly capable of competing for P2 and P3," Mekies stated. "Isack’s speed confirms that. This year, it has been crucial for us that the second car is also performing well. Having two strong drivers is important, and we now have that."
Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock believes Hadjar has emerged as one of the standout performers of the season. "He’s one of the standout individuals of the year for me," the Sky Deutschland analyst remarked. "Looking back, everyone was concerned about Max Verstappen. Yet Hadjar stands up and says, ‘No, I’m ready for the challenge, and I will succeed.’ He proves that more and more every weekend. He’s sometimes matching Max Verstappen, and his race pace has been exceptional. It was an absolutely fantastic weekend for him."
Hadjar also played a crucial supporting role during qualifying at Spa, providing Verstappen with two slipstreams that helped the Dutch driver secure P2 on the grid. Viaplay pundit Tom Coronel believes this cooperation could be advantageous for Hadjar in the future. "With Hadjar's actions, it’s a case of ‘if you give, you get’," he commented. "You build a lot of goodwill and credit."
Coronel is not yet convinced that Hadjar will become a race winner or a world champion, but he emphasizes the value of learning alongside Verstappen. "Be cautious, but not just yet," he advised. "The best position is to be the teammate of the fastest driver there is. Being Max’s teammate means you can gain valuable insights from that."
