Lewis Hamilton: This weekend I want to win!

On Thursday in Hungary, Lewis Hamilton reflected on last year's unsuccessful weekend and spoke about the challenges ahead for the upcoming race...

Lewis Hamilton: "I am certainly proud of all the team members, and I am proud of myself for being able to get out of the situation I found myself in here a year ago. Someday, when making a documentary about my career, I will tell everything about that weekend and what led to it. Having gone through all this, I am now in a completely different position than I was a year ago. I am grateful for the progress the team has made, for all the puzzle pieces I was putting together coming together, and that now we have a great car that we can compete with. Every weekend we come to the track aiming for the maximum result. We have had a few really successful weekends. Things were going well in Silverstone, but one wrong step took away my chances to fight for victory. The same happened last week in Spa, but such things happen in our sport. We were sure that we would be behind in Silverstone and Spa. Usually, Kimi drives so fast that he immediately pulls away, but this time he wasn't as quick. One of those races Charles won, and in the other he finished second – this shows that we are moving in the right direction.

This weekend I want to win. That is my goal every weekend, but especially here, as this track should suit our car. I just need to step it up. The weekend in Spa was tough, and I take full responsibility for what happened. The main thing is how you react, and I believe I can get back into the fight here. Will I go to the stewards about the penalty in Spa? I try to avoid such things. I didn't come into this weekend thinking about contesting the penalty. I'm sure they will sort it out themselves. The FIA tries to do its job well, ensuring consistency in penalties. Obviously, achieving that doesn't always happen. But I'm no longer thinking about last weekend. What's done is done; we need to move on."
