At the FIA press conference on Thursday in Hungary, Alpine driver Franco Colapinto shared his feelings about Argentina's loss to Spain in the World Cup final.
Franco Colapinto: "Of course, I'm upset, but Spain is currently playing the best football in the world. As Carlos Sainz said, they are winning everything. This is already their third world champion title [actually the second, – ed. note]. But despite the loss, I am very proud of our team.
I am proud of Argentina, Messi, and all our players. I think every Argentine feels that they represent our country well – in how they play and in how they defend the colors of the national team. I am proud to be Argentine.
Life goes on. But for this generation of footballers, these were probably their last matches. They have given us so much joy and unforgettable moments. Sometimes in football, this happens.
Argentina and Spain have always been very close to each other. It was a magnificent final and a real celebration for everyone who speaks Spanish. It was great to see two Spanish-speaking countries in the final.
But along with this comes the rivalry and emotions that football evokes. It now seems as if our countries have become bitter rivals. This is largely due to Messi playing for Barcelona, but he has actually given Spain many happy moments.
So it is unpleasant to see everything turning into something like a war between the two countries. I don't like that. Football is the most popular sport in the world, and such things do not honor it.
Of course, Real Madrid fans did not get much joy from Messi. It was unpleasant to see someone burning his jersey. Fortunately, his jersey does not burn.
Overall, I don't like when football evokes such negative emotions. But it is what it is, and winners are not judged. I hope that by the next World Cup, the Spaniards will come up with more original songs. These are already a bit tiresome."
