      Crumbling asphalt has raised concerns among Formula 1 officials ahead of the Hungarian GP, with fears that further track deterioration might disrupt Sunday’s race. Nico Hulkenberg referred to the resurfaced areas as a "patchwork quilt" on Thursday, while drivers faced bumps, dust, inconsistent grip, and loose stones during practice and qualifying sessions. The most significant issue appeared in the final corner, where the asphalt started to break apart directly on the racing line. George Russell was critical, stating, "They’ve re-laid a third of the track, and unfortunately, it’s a terrible job. There really are a lot of bumps." He added, "The track crumbles in the last corner, forcing drivers to navigate through the middle of the corner. They can’t find their line, which is not typical." Oscar Piastri also lamented the patched surface, saying, "The track surface is quite strange in some areas, particularly on the new sections where it has been worn and some strips of asphalt have been added." This issue was discussed during Friday’s drivers’ briefing before race director Rui Marques and other FIA officials examined the circuit. Repairs were conducted overnight, especially in Turn 1. An FIA official confirmed that "two sections were repaired, one in the area and the other to the right of the area where overtaking cars must pass." However, the most severely damaged areas elsewhere remained mostly untouched. According to Auto Motor und Sport, officials are aiming to prevent a repeat of the situation in Monaco, where similar track damage led to a red flag and emergency repairs. Pirelli has also cautioned that the rough, low-grip surface may lead to increased sliding, higher tyre temperatures, and accelerated wear as the race unfolds, especially in traffic.
