Investigating the reasons for George Russell's car stopping after the end of qualifying, Mercedes decided to replace the power unit in his car. The reason for the replacement is a leak. Russell damaged the oil pan on the curb of the fourth corner on the final fast lap in qualifying, causing the engine to crack. There will be no penalties for this – George received the fourth engine out of the four allowed for the season.
