In March, the US Secret Service released a concept image of an Escalade featuring an eight-lug, HD chassis around the same time GM was said to have secured a $14.8 million contract for a new presidential limousine. Today, President Trump announced that the military-Escalade concept has been realized, and he’s placing an order for 250 of them.

“The one and only Escalade,” the President remarked during his hour-long speech. “You know we ordered, I think, 250 Escalades, right? We ordered 250 Escalades … We look sharp in those Escalades.” He also made several comments criticizing the UAW president.

With an Escalade priced around $90,000, this order would total over $22,500,000. It remains unclear whether these will be standard Escalades for transportation or armored versions like the concept revealed last year. Most likely, they will feature some custom modifications and will be more expensive than the Escalades available for lease at your local Cadillac dealership.

While specifications have not been revealed, these vehicles will likely utilize GM HD pickup truck frames with large axles and armor. Even a basic armored Escalade can easily exceed $300,000.

However, if these Escalades resemble the vehicle teased by the USSS last year, the "Escalade" branding will mostly apply to the bumpers and exterior trim. They will likely share the same structural components as the Suburbans currently in use.

The USSS also operates a large mobile command center bus, various Ford and Chevy SUVs, and at least one Terradyne Gurkha tactical vehicle, which is constructed on a Ford Super Duty platform.
