A new car has been introduced in Indycar.

The Indycar series has introduced a new car that will be used in the 2028 season and beyond. It is claimed that the new IR-28, created in collaboration with Dallara, is faster, lighter, and safer. The car has been designed from the ground up but inherits many family traits. The powertrain will be based on a 2.4-liter V6 internal combustion engine with twin turbocharging, capable of producing up to 760 horsepower. The new hybrid platform will feature the series' first-ever energy storage system (ESS), supplied by the Spanish company BOLD Technology. The ESS for the IR-28 provides approximately 14 times the energy storage capacity compared to the current supercapacitor-based system.

Doug Bowles, president of IndyCar: "We are excited to introduce a new version of the NTT INDYCAR chassis that will usher in a new era in our sport. A project of this scale requires an incredible amount of planning, collaboration, and execution. I would like to thank all of our partners, including Dallara, Chevrolet, Honda, Firestone, and Shell, who have tirelessly worked to create a package that will enhance the already incredible competitiveness of INDYCAR. Initial testing will begin this week, and there is much to be done before 2028, but we are confident that the IR-28 is the perfect option to advance INDYCAR for our teams, drivers, partners, and fans."
