According to reports, Red Bull compensated Marko with 8 million euros for his silence.

      Red Bull allegedly compensated Dr. Helmut Marko with 8 million euros to keep him silent after his forced retirement as a long-time adviser. German journalist Ralf Bach, writing for f1-insider.com, reports that Marko’s departure agreement prohibits him from giving interviews until the end of 2026.

      "The new leadership at Red Bull, under Oliver Mintzlaff, is said to have paid 8 million euros to eliminate even the faintest remnants of Mateschitz’s free speech ethos," Bach noted. "A confidentiality clause in the termination agreement effectively silences Marko."

      "He is restricted from providing any interviews until the end of 2026." Bach contrasts this situation with the philosophy of the late Red Bull founder, Dietrich Mateschitz, who promoted outspoken characters and unconventional choices.

      "During Dietrich Mateschitz's tenure, Red Bull was known for its unconventional, bold and uncompromising approach," he explained. "However, since his passing, the racing team has undergone a significant transformation."

      Bach is also critical of the new management team under Laurent Mekies and incoming junior program chief Gwen Lagrue—Marko’s direct successor from Mercedes. "Mekies embodies a new style of leadership," he said. "His approach seems to be: appear amiable, speak extensively without conveying much, and surround himself with loyal supporters."

      "Improving the team's performance on the track appears to be of secondary importance." He points out that Red Bull has lost several key figures, including Adrian Newey, Rob Marshall, and Jonathan Wheatley, while Max Verstappen's confidence in the technical team is also diminishing.

      "Sources close to Verstappen suggest that he plans to stay with Red Bull in 2027 mainly because there are no serious alternatives," Bach wrote. "He may consider looking for another team afterward." Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher concurs that Marko’s absence is felt beyond just the media landscape. "Helmut Marko is missed in all areas, not just in interviews," he stated.
