Max Verstappen believes in the talent of Dries van Langenhove.
Last month we reported that the career of talented Dries van Langenhonk will now be managed by the Verstappen Racing management team.
This season, the 15-year-old Belgian, who is also part of the McLaren youth program, is competing in the British Formula 4 for Rodin Motorsport, where he has already secured four victories, and after six rounds of the season (each consisting of three races), he confidently leads the individual standings.
In previous years, van Langenhonk was involved in karting and has repeatedly become a winner in competitions of various levels – from the national championship of Belgium to the world championship. Before his debut in British F4, he managed to win the title in the Formula Winter Series – a European youth championship, with rounds taking place from January to March on the racetracks of Portugal and Spain.
What Dries will do in the next stage of his career has not yet been decided by his new management, but there is no doubt that great prospects are opening up for him, and Verstappen intends to take him to Formula 1.
“In the end, the dreams of many drivers are connected to Formula 1, and if there is someone in whom I see real potential, it is Dries,” Max shared in an interview with RacingNews365. “I truly believe that he can make it to F1. And not just because we speak the same language – it’s about what he has been doing since he was young. It’s clear that he has a natural gift for speed; he is always among the best.
Perhaps victories come to him more easily than to others – that is a sign of talent. Talent is not always a more important factor than hard work, so the task is to find the right compromise. We will try to help him fully unleash all facets of his talent.
Of course, he has already received good support, as his parents are doing everything they can. I think it’s now time to take the next step, and together with the McLaren program, we will strive to ensure that he reaches Formula 1. For this, it is necessary to make the right decisions – for talent to flourish, it is important for the driver to always be part of the right team.
In addition, it is undoubtedly essential to ensure proper preparation for each new series he moves into. We will simply try to ensure that Dries receives all the necessary opportunities, and from there it depends on him how he uses them.”
