Zac Brown won the pole in the 1970 McLaren M8D.

      Zak Brown has proven to be an excellent leader of McLaren not only because he knows how to make money – it is equally important that he not only passionately loves motorsport but is also quite capable behind the wheel of a racing car.

      Moreover, Mr. Brown has an entire collection of them – primarily referring to vehicles from different years that have left a significant mark in the history of world motorsport. Every year, he gets behind the wheel of some of these cars to participate in competitions, and not just for pleasure – the CEO of McLaren regularly achieves high placements in races held as part of the traditional car festival in Monterey, California.

      "My favorite way to enjoy the summer break is to spend it at the Laguna Seca racetrack!" writes Zak Brown on his social media pages. "This weekend, the festival in Monterey begins, and my team United Autosports has brought three of my favorite cars here.

      These are the McLaren M8D Can-Am series prototype, the Jaguar XJR8, a Group C sports car, and the Chevrolet Camaro, which I race in IROC. And next week, I will get behind the wheel of a very special racing car that I have never driven before.

      So here we are in California, and we qualified on pole with the McLaren M8D, so we will start from pole in the Sunday race for the Bruce McLaren trophy!"

      The McLaren M8D sports prototype was created in 1970 for the popular overseas Can-Am series at the time, and cars like these saw Dan Gurney, Peter Gethin, and Denny Hulme win nine out of ten races that season. This was shortly after the tragic death of the company's founder, Bruce McLaren – by a fateful turn of events, his life was taken by an accident that occurred during testing of the M8D at the Goodwood track.

      In general, Zak Brown tries to keep up with his drivers, as the McLaren team went into the summer break after a successful performance at the Hungarian Grand Prix, which Lando Norris won after starting from pole.
