Sainz remains as pressure mounts on Vowles.

Carlos Sainz has officially committed to Williams for the 2027 season, but this announcement does little to alleviate the increasing scrutiny faced by team principal James Vowles during a disappointing season under the new regulations. Williams describes Sainz’s contract as multi-year, although rumors in the paddock continue to imply that significant exit protection is embedded in the agreement.

After openly criticizing the car and the team's lack of advancement this season, Sainz adopted a notably loyal tone in the official statement. "I have complete faith in the people who make up this team, both at the factory and on the racetracks, as well as in the investments and hard work taking place behind the scenes," he expressed. "We possess the ability to turn this around together. My commitment to helping Williams return to its rightful place is as strong as it was from day one."

Ralf Schumacher, however, remains skeptical about Williams’ future direction. "They are far from reaching the top," remarked the former team driver and race winner to Sky Deutschland. "James Vowles needs to find a way to change the situation; otherwise, he will find himself in trouble as well."

Schumacher feels that the setbacks in 2026 are particularly harmful since Williams had high expectations for the regulatory changes. "They’re starting over again, or even from a point worse than zero, I’d argue," the German pointed out. "It will take an eternity once more, and that will not alter."

In other news, the driver market is predicted to be a key topic in the paddock at Zandvoort this weekend. "I would say the silly season is now in full effect," Schumacher stated. "The rumors surrounding Esteban Ocon are intensifying, indicating he may not have a seat at Haas next year, which would certainly be a disappointment for him."

Sky Italia has reported that Leonardo Fornaroli is projected to race for Haas next season, while Jack Doohan is also associated with a TPC test for the team at Jerez following Madrid, and Ferrari junior Rafael Camara remains a contender.

At Red Bull, speculation surrounding Max Verstappen is expected to persist during his last home Grand Prix. "We haven’t received any updates on that either," Schumacher noted. "Hopefully for them, it will just be a farewell tour for the Dutch Grand Prix, not Max’s farewell to the team."

Meanwhile, Red Bull has confirmed that Liam Lawson will step in for the injured Isack Hadjar at Zandvoort, with reserve driver Yuki Tsunoda taking up a seat with the Racing Bulls. Paddock rumors indicate that Hadjar’s wrist injury may actually involve a broken bone sustained during boxing training.
