Marko: It’s best for Verstappen to remain with Red Bull.
Dr. Helmut Marko believes that the partnership between Max Verstappen and Red Bull continues to be beneficial, citing the team's recent advancements as a source of confidence. The former motorsport advisor for Red Bull, who retired last year, shared with Sport Bild that he still closely follows both qualifying and races, even though he no longer attends every practice session. "My heart still belongs to Red Bull, of course," remarked the 83-year-old. "Their start was challenging, but the team is continuously improving. I’m pleased about this as it is crucial for the future."
When asked about the speculation regarding Verstappen's exit clause and potential departure, Marko was straightforward. "It was the best decision for both parties to continue working together. I believe they are heading in the right direction," the Austrian stated. "It would have been better if this was communicated earlier. Max is not just a driver; he represents the face of the racing team."
Marko also commended Red Bull's younger drivers. "I'm very impressed with Hadjar's performance in qualifying," he noted. "He has been faster than Max three times. That is commendable." However, he added that Hadjar needs to enhance his race performance and manage his tires better. He also mentioned Arvid Lindblad and Formula 2 leader Nikola Tsolov, who is expected to make the jump to F2 in 2027. "Lindblad is having an outstanding first season in Formula 1," said Marko. "He's demonstrating significant potential. The same applies to Nikola Tsolov. I believe he can compete effectively in Formula 1 and will bring a lot of joy to Red Bull."
Despite Red Bull's standing invitation, Marko expressed that he has no immediate plans to return to the paddock. "Red Bull has offered a permanent invitation, but for now, I'm not inclined to go back to the paddock. I'm content with my life."
