Ayo Komatsu, team principal: “It’s disappointing to end the weekend with a double retirement due to power unit problems. We need to figure out the reasons. In the end, Oliver retired very early, and Esteban had more issues during the race than in qualifying.
I think we managed to get the maximum out of our cars before the failures – that’s the limit of our capabilities for today. The pit stops went very well, and Esteban’s pit stop was our fastest of the season. That’s a positive point; I hope that when we have a faster car, we can take advantage of it.”
Oliver Berman (retirement): “I had a good start and went well through the first lap, and then the race was stopped with red flags. We were preparing for the restart when the engine on my car stalled right on the formation lap. We don’t know the reasons yet; I just felt the engine cut out – that was the end for me.
The weekend was unfortunate, but we will have some updates next week. I really hope they will help us improve.”
Esteban Ocon (retirement): “This year we haven’t had such reliability issues; this is the first case like this. We believe the failure is related to the power unit, but we need to thoroughly investigate everything. Problems occurred on both cars, but we were still far from scoring points.
The updates are on the way; we really need them – let’s see how they affect the speed and efficiency of the car.”
