F3: Slater leads on the first day of testing in Madrid
Before the first Grand Prix is held on a new track, organizers often invite a local series for testing to check the operation of all services under real conditions. The car evacuation service, marshals, medical center, race management, signaling and traffic lights on the track, press center, security service, TV cameras, timing – during such tests, everything operates as it would during the Grand Prix, allowing potential problems to be identified and resolved before the arrival of Formula 1. The promoters of the Spanish Grand Prix, which will take place in mid-September on the new track in Madrid, proposed to conduct such tests for the organizers of Formula 3 – resulting in an interesting and mutually beneficial plan that allows young drivers to familiarize themselves with the new track and the management of the racetrack to check all services.
Today, the first day of such tests took place at Madrid. The drivers completed two four-hour sessions. The tests were stopped seven times with red flags to evacuate cars and restore barriers, but overall everything went smoothly. The best time of the first day was set by Audi youth program participant, championship leader Freddy Slater from Trident.
