McLaren is awaiting clarification on the cancellation of Gasly's penalties.

      On Tuesday in Paris, the appeal hearing of McLaren and Red Bull Racing regarding the penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly during the Monaco race, which were later overturned, began. Like many drivers, Gasly received two time penalties for speeding in the pit lane. Other drivers served their penalties during the race, while Pierre had time added after the finish. After the race, the Alpine team lodged a protest, which the stewards upheld, noting that the length of the pit lane, and thus the speed, was measured incorrectly. As a result, Gasly moved up to third place in the final classification, ahead of Isaac Hadjar and Oscar Piastri, who served a penalty during the race. Before the hearings began, McLaren's team principal Andrea Stella outlined two issues for which the team seeks clarification. Andrea Stella: "We are appealing to the International Court of Appeal with two objectives. The first goes beyond McLaren's interests. We believe that the decision made after the Monaco race needs to be reviewed, as from a fairness perspective for all participants, the overturning of the penalty raises serious questions. We want to take this opportunity to ask the International Court of Appeal to clarify this point. Of course, there is also a technical aspect to the case. For example, the question of how the speed in the pit lane was calculated. But for me, the principle of fairness that needs to be clarified and possibly restored is much more important. I believe that what happened raises serious concerns. The second objective is directly related to McLaren's interests. For us, this is not just a matter of principle, as we have suffered real consequences by serving a penalty that could not be appealed, and ultimately lost points in the championship because of it. Therefore, there is a common interest in Formula 1 and the integrity of sporting principles, as well as a specific interest for McLaren regarding the impact of this decision on the championship situation. These are the two aspects we want to discuss and seek clarification on in the International Court of Appeal."
