Lando Norris extended his contract with McLaren until 2030.

      Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, has extended his contract with McLaren until 2030 – the team announced this on Saturday.

      Norris is 26 years old and has been with McLaren for nine years: he was invited to the Woking team's youth program in 2017, where he was given the responsibilities of a test driver, primarily working on the simulator.

      In 2019, Lando made his Formula 1 debut and has since participated in 163 Grands Prix – more than any other driver in the team's history. During this time, he has secured 18 pole positions, stood on the podium 48 times, achieved 13 victories, and won the championship title last season.

      Today, the annual "Open Day" is taking place at the McLaren Technology Centre, where the team’s base can be visited by the families and friends of employees, and Lando announced the contract extension in person.

      In addition to the news of the new long-term contract, the driver received a gift from the team: the MCL39 – the car he raced last year when he became the world champion.

      Lando Norris: “McLaren is my home, and I am very happy to have signed a new contract and to stay with the team at least until 2030. When I started this journey nine years ago, I already had specific goals in mind: I wanted McLaren to return to the front.

      That goal has been achieved, but we want more; we want to keep winning and know that the team is capable of it. I can't wait to get back behind the wheel in Monza, and I am excited about the prospects that lie ahead for us in the remaining races of this season and in the coming years.”
