      FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem has openly supported Argentina's desire to rejoin the Formula 1 calendar, while cautioning that the primary challenge lies in making space for an additional race. His remarks came after President Javier Milei asserted that Argentina is now fully equipped to host Formula 1 again and expressed a wish to see Franco Colapinto race at home.

      Speaking at the FIA American Congress in Buenos Aires, Ben Sulayem stated, "I will back the move to have a Formula 1 or World Rally Championship event here in Argentina." He affirmed, "Does Argentina merit a place on the F1 calendar? The answer is yes," citing the nation's history, enthusiasm from fans, and improving economic circumstances.

      "They have a history, they have a legacy," noted the FIA president. "There is a passion for motorsport, and the economic situation is favorable. Argentina is in a better position now." Therefore, he concluded, "It’s feasible."

      However, Ben Sulayem tempered expectations regarding a quick return. "Beyond the emotional aspect, there’s also the rational side when we talk about the F1 calendar," he explained. "Does Argentina deserve a spot? Yes, but there is a process to follow, a business plan to consider, and a limited number of slots available."

      "If Argentina comes in, someone else will have to exit." The Buenos Aires circuit is already undergoing renovations with Formula 1 in mind, and Milei took the opportunity during the FIA gathering to personally advocate for Argentina's return.

      Ben Sulayem also commended the well-supported Argentine driver Colapinto, whose contract with Alpine has recently been renewed by Flavio Briatore. "He’s a fantastic driver," said Ben Sulayem. "Colapinto is here to stay. He represents Argentina exceptionally well, showcasing both respect and sporting excellence."
