Nico Hülkenberg finished eighth in Austin and scored his first points since his podium at Silverstone. His teammate Gabriel Bortoleto finished the race eighteenth. In the Constructors' Championship Sauber cut the gap to Aston Martin to ten points in the battle for seventh place. Nico Hülkenberg (8th): “I’m very happy to have scored points. This weekend we showed excellent pace, starting from Friday’s practice. Because of the incident in the sprint I didn’t have the chance to show what we’re capable of, so it’s great that there was another opportunity on Sunday. The race was clean, and we were determined to extract the maximum from it. The whole team deserved this result for the work they’ve done. Now we’re off to Mexico!” Gabriel Bortoleto (18th): “My race wasn’t very eventful. Probably we could have done things differently during the virtual safety car period, but starting from the back always makes the task more difficult, especially when there isn’t a clear pace advantage over the car ahead, as was the case this time. Overall the weekend was tough. Nevertheless, I want to thank the team for their work during the session, for listening to my feedback and for trying to help me perform better. We will learn from this weekend to understand what could have been done differently. The team isn’t giving up and is heading to the next round.”
