Mayor of Madrid: The race will be on time and a resounding success

In the summer of 2026, the Formula 1 race will be held in Madrid for the first time, but work on the construction of the track has not yet begun. Moreover, some mandatory examinations have not yet been carried out and the contractor has not yet been selected. In February, a special plan for the use of the area should be submitted to the city council for approval - it was planned to agree in January, but did not have time. Opponents criticize the government because of speculation that the Grand Prix will be spent on public funds, but the mayor of Madrid Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida denies these rumors and is optimistic. Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida: "The Madrid Grand Prix will be paid exclusively by private investment, and the race will be held on time and with great success. Work will begin in the second half of the year. The last new Spanish circuit - in the port of Valencia - was ready literally at the last minute, the race actually took place on the construction site and after a few years was canceled.
