Wurz: FIA didn't consult with drivers on new rules

Changes to the FIA's sporting code for 2025 were revealed last week, which will see Formula 1 drivers start to receive significant fines as well as disqualifications and points deductions from their personal standings for using profanity or criticizing the FIA.

Formula 1 Drivers' Association (GPDA) chairman Alex Wurz confirmed that the FIA was not consulted before the code changes and the drivers plan to meet in the future to discuss the changes and next steps. Alex Wurz: "No, we were not consulted. We read about the changes in the press. Perhaps a joint work between the FIA and GPDA would have made things better. If we make comparisons, in the NFL in America there is a players' union, which takes part in the discussion of such issues. In our case, there was no involvement of the drivers. I'm not even sure if the FIA involved its own drivers' commission in the development of this document. I just don't know that. I hope we won't see so many penalties. We in GPDA haven't discussed these innovations together yet. The racers are very busy right now and I don't want to stress them out. These are already the rules, and we can not change them so easily, but, of course, we will get together and discuss what our future actions will be. The best option is not to quarrel. It's simple."
