Ferrari and McLaren completed the Pirelli tests in Barcelona
In Barcelona ended two-day tests of prototypes of Pirelli tires for the next season with the participation of Ferrari and McLaren. Today Charles Leclair and Lewis Hamilton again in turn piloted Ferrari SF-24, and Oscar Piastri worked behind the wheel of McLaren MCL60. Both cars were adapted to the dimensions of the tires of 2026 - they are already today's 25 millimeters in front and 30 at the rear. On the second day of testing racers drove 300 laps: 74 each for Leclair and Hamilton and 152 laps for Piastri. Time on the lap did not matter - the drivers worked on the Pirelli program on different series with different rubber, nevertheless the tire makers named the time of the best lap - 1:14.971 for Leclair, 1:15.815 for Piastri and 1:16.759 for Hamilton.
Mario Isola, Director of Pirelli Motorsport: "A useful day, we were able to compare different tire designs and experiment with stiffer compounds. The Barcelona circuit is one of the most demanding for tires in terms of wear and degradation, so the information gathered now is very important for the further development of this generation of tires.
The beginning of the year turned out to be difficult, we spent four days of tests before the start of the season, and I want to thank the working with us teams, because they also have a schedule now very busy". Next week, engineers Pirelli will hold two days of tests in Jerez - on them by lot team Alpine will work both days, and McLaren and Mercedes - one. The final pre-season tests of new tires will be held on the track Sakhir in Bahrain on March 2 and 3, where Alpine and Williams will work both days. The official three-day tests will then take place at the same circuit, after which the teams will head to Australia."
