Bomel hopes to return to action despite amputation

At the end of January, we wrote that Mathieu Beaumel, the former navigator of Nasser Al-Attiyah, who won the Dakar four times with him, was badly injured in a road accident in France. His injuries were so serious that he agreed to have his right leg amputated, which Mathieu announced in a video message to fans. Mathieu Beaumel: "It's been 17 days since the accident and I'm still in hospital. I can say that of course I am much better, but I have made a very important decision that is directly related to my life. My right leg will be amputated - I will receive a modern, all-carbon prosthesis, although unfortunately it will not be my own leg. I've already had three operations - the surgeons tried to save my left leg and it should be fine. So I will do my best to make sure that everything works normally in the future, and I am quite confident... I want to thank the fans from all over the world who have sent me messages of support. It gives me strength and I intend to fight for my future. I have a single goal in front of me - to prepare for the next Dakar. I intend to fully recover to get a place in one of the best machines in the most powerful T1+ category. Of course, the rehabilitation process will be long, stretching for weeks and months, but I understand it well and I am ready to accept everything that awaits me in the future. I hope to see you again at the Dakar Rally-Raid!"
