Carlos Sainz has become the new director of the GPDA Association.

Carlos Sainz has become the new director of the GPDA association, which is also called the Formula 1 drivers' union. Other World Championship participants voted for the Spanish Williams driver, and he replaced Sebastian Vettel, who retired from motorsport.

The GPDA represents the interests of Formula 1 racers, and initially such an organization was founded back in 1961, then it was revived in 1994 after the tragic deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger.

Historically, the association has mainly dealt with security issues, but after Alex Wurz, a former Formula 1 racing driver, became its chairman in 2014, the range of issues addressed by the GDPA has become broader.

The association's management consists of four people: Wurz serves as chairman, and there are also three directors – lawyer Anastasia Fowl, George Russell, and now Carlos Sainz.

"I passionately love the sport I play, and I think the drivers have a responsibility to work together with Formula 1 shareholders to contribute to its comprehensive development," The Race quoted Carlos as saying. "Therefore, I am very pleased and proud to be able to contribute as director of GPDA."

Being the director of this association is a kind of social burden, and Sainz took it upon himself at a very interesting time, when the contradictions between the drivers and the president of the FIA, Mohammed bin Sulayem, are increasingly escalating.

Recently, the reason for the disagreement has been the federation's new, very harsh approach to the problem of foul language, because now racers can not only be fined, but also suspended from participating in competitions.

Last fall, the GPDA association sent Ben Sulayem an open letter with the following words: "We urge the FIA president to also take into account his own tone and speech when he talks to the drivers or even speaks about them publicly or privately. Racers are adults, they don't need to give instructions through the press on such trivial matters as wearing jewelry or underwear..."

Of course, the riders did not meet with understanding from the president of the federation.: he advised them to mind their own business.

Sainz recently also spoke about the problem of profanity: on the one hand, he agrees that racers should be an example to others when they participate in official press conferences, on the other, they should not be prohibited from expressing emotions on race tracks when they are hot, when they work under tremendous pressure, and adrenaline It's off the charts.
