Cowell: There are some minor issues, but that's okay.

Andy Cowell, the new head of Aston Martin F1, commented on the start of the tests in Bahrain, noting that it is too early to draw conclusions, but overall the work is going according to plan, and if problems arise, they are not too serious, and the team manages to deal with them quickly.

Question: It is clear that the tests are just beginning, but can we say that your business is going well?Andy Cowell: It's hard to say yet, because we're only halfway through the first day of testing. There is a strong and very gusty wind, which makes it difficult to obtain information, so for now we are just checking how the car as a whole and all its onboard systems work individually. We also carried out several important checks by installing grilles with aerodynamic sensors on the car – in any case, the analysis of the collected data will take some time.

But overall, everything is going according to plan. As the speed increases, some minor difficulties gradually appear, but this is normal, and all our engineers and mechanics are working together to collect as much information as possible over three days of tests and sort out all the problems.

Question: It is clear that all Formula 1 teams have their own characteristics, but you worked for Mercedes for a long time, and at Aston Martin you took up a higher position as team leader. Do you already have an understanding of how it should be developed?Andy Cowell: It is a great honor for me to represent and lead the Aston Martin team at the tests, because this is a very interesting project. Any Formula 1 team is involved in the technical business, and my whole career has been connected with it, so many aspects of working at Aston Martin are exactly the same as everywhere else. But there are differences in the business I'm doing now – for example, it was a novelty for me to represent the team at a general presentation in London.

While I continue to get to know the team, I study how all the work processes are set up here, what tools it has in order to understand in which areas improvements are needed and how to achieve them. And this should be done as soon as possible.

Question: What would you say about working with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, although it is clear that your drivers are at different stages of their careers?Andy Cowell: Both are experienced professionals, both really want to improve the speed of the car, and the impressions of both of them about the work of the AMR25 are very important to us. The most important task of the entire team, which employs thousands of specialists, is to provide two drivers with a truly fast car. And I have no doubt that then both will be able to show excellent results.
