Results of the morning session of the first day of tests
The teams choose Bahrain for the tests because of the warm and stable weather, but this time, with +15 and gusty winds, the weather turned out to be the same as in Barcelona, where winter tests usually take place, much more convenient from a logistical point of view.
The teams have already conducted the first run-in of the machines as part of the filming days, checked the operation of the systems, and on the first day of testing they immediately started working, collecting information and comparing different configuration options.
The first session was quiet. Tsunoda had problems with the brakes. Lawson took off at the third corner, but did not reach the barrier. Alonso lost time in the pits, but then he continued to work.
On the straights, some cars, as in previous years, suffered from swinging.
No one worked on the speed, the teams are solving completely different tasks, and very successfully – already on the morning of the first day, some riders drove more than the race distance (in Bahrain it is 57 laps).
Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli led the morning session minutes, completing the best lap on Medium tires in 1:31.428 – the schedule is quite consistent with the first day of testing last year.
There's an hour-long lunch break ahead, after which all the teams will change drivers.
