Mattia Binotto: Bortoleto wants to win with Audi

Last season's Formula 2 champion Gabriel Bortoleto will make his Formula 1 debut next weekend. Mattia Binotto, Sauber Motorsport's Operations and Technical Director, explained why the team decided to give the young Brazilian a chance.

Mattia Binotto: "I have no doubts about his talent. His results in Formula 3 and Formula 2 show that he has great potential. First of all, it is necessary to note his attitude to the case. Gabriel is very mature for his age and determined. He didn't just want to move to Formula 1, he made it clear to us that he wanted to be a part of the project and one day win with Audi.

At the same time, he is very young, which fits perfectly with our philosophy of building a future with young drivers and investing in them."

Binotto spoke about Bortoleto's training before his debut: "He drove a thousand kilometers allowed by the regulations in cars from previous years. We conducted two days of such tests for him, in Imola and Barcelona.

In addition, he participated in the Pirelli tire tests in Abu Dhabi last year, as well as on a shooting day. We used all available options. However, of all the debutants of the season, Gabriel probably has the least distance covered. But the way he works has already impressed us."
