Eddie Jordan: Let's see what Kimi is capable of.
Former Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan believes that Carlos Sainz should have been invited to Mercedes, not Andrea Kimi Antonelli, if the team is aiming to win the Constructors' Cup. At the same time, Jordan admitted that betting on the young Italian debutant could play out.
Eddie Jordan: "Mercedes will probably save 50 million on Lewis Hamilton's salary. Even if they were paying Antonelli several million, the savings are simply enormous. But anyway, let's see what Kimi is capable of. His invitation came as a surprise to me.
I still think that Mercedes should have signed Carlos Sainz. If they desperately want to win the Constructors' Cup, then they need someone else instead of Kimi to be paired with George Russell.
With all due respect, it's impossible to achieve much in a debut season. But if he succeeds, then I will be the first to admit that he did a brilliant job. I may have to take back what I said because he's an amazing racer, but at the moment it's all in question. And Mercedes doesn't know what to expect from him either."
