Hamilton supports the idea of bringing back V10 engines to F1.
Lewis Hamilton has joined the discussion about the exciting possibility of bringing back the thrilling V10 engines to Formula 1. While F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, and Christian Horner express enthusiasm for this idea, Toto Wolff and Frederic Vasseur emphasize the need to concentrate on the immediate transition to even more electrified hybrid power units for 2026 and beyond. "We risk overshadowing the message we want to convey to the world if, a year before the new regulations, we discuss something that will come much later," said Mercedes boss and co-owner Wolff. However, Lewis Hamilton believes that returning from today's heavier and quieter 'power units' to F1’s naturally aspirated history would be a positive change. At a Ferrari event in Milan, the seven-time world champion, whose first McLaren in 2007 was equipped with a 2.4-litre V8, shared his vision for F1's future. "I hope that in 20 years we’ll have thrilling races and cars that sound great," said the Brit. "I certainly hope it won’t be fully electric, but rather sustainable with V10 or V12 engines, maintaining a zero carbon footprint or something similar," added Hamilton, who is 40 years old.
