Formula 1 and the FIA have officially confirmed Cadillac's entry into the sport in 2026.

With the announcement making headlines, new speculation regarding the drivers for the Ferrari-powered cars next year has begun.

Mick Schumacher, who attended the Race of Champions in Sydney over the weekend, believes he should be a contender.

"At this moment, everything is an option," the German stated to Speed Week.

"As I have mentioned in several interviews, I feel I have what it takes for Formula 1. But we must wait and see what unfolds. The year is still long, and the aim is to return in 2026."

Most insiders view Andretti’s current top driver in Indycar, Colton Herta, as the clear frontrunner – a sentiment shared by Cadillac officials as well.

"One indication that he will be the one is that he is the highest-paid Indycar driver, earning $7 million a year," remarked Dutch driver and analyst Renger van der Zande. "Others make around three to four million.

"That's because they have actually offered Herta a contract in Formula 1."

Another Dutch analyst, Jack Plooij, mentioned to Ziggo Sport that he believes George Russell is a contender for the other seat, particularly as he thinks the Brit will be displaced at Mercedes by Max Verstappen.

However, Dani Juncadella, Aston Martin’s new simulator driver, expressed that it would be a significant oversight if Herta’s Indycar rival, Alex Palou, is not considered by Cadillac.

"If Palou isn’t in the mix for one of these seats in 2026, I’m going to set X on fire," he humorously posted on social media.

"And every one of the seats and brands I am associated with is at risk because I can’t be blamed for what my keyboard does," Juncadella jokingly added. "At least I’m giving you a heads-up."
