George Russell: I'm no faster than I was when I was 18.

George Russell has been teammate of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton for three years, and this season he will compete alongside debutant Kimi Antonelli. When the British driver was asked in Melbourne on Thursday if he felt he had to keep ahead of his team-mate, George replied that he did not think Antonelli would have any problems with speed.

George Russell: "Kimi is an outstanding racer, and I don't feel like I'm faster today than I was when I was 18. However, I've become more experienced. For example, now I know how to act when I get into traffic during qualifying on the exit lap. I know what to do when the tires are overheated or cold, and I know how to handle the pressure in Formula 1.

But if we talk about pure pace, I don't think I'm any faster than I was nine years ago. Consider the example of Oliver Berman last year. He did a great job just getting behind the wheel. Franco Colapinto did a great job too.

We all did a great job when we debuted in Formula 1. Maybe it was harder for me because I made my Williams debut, but me, Lando Norris, Charles Leclair, Max Verstappen showed the pace right away as soon as we got behind the wheel. Why do you think it will be different for Kimi?"
