Hajjar: I can't believe we have such a fast car.
Isaac Hajjar, one of the main losers of the Australian Grand Prix, is trying to rehabilitate himself this weekend, and it looks like the Racing Bulls debutant is succeeding. At least in the main qualifying of the weekend, he showed a very decent 7th result and was ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, his more experienced teammate.
Isaac Hajjar (7th): "I'm proud of our team, and I can't believe we have such a fast car. Already during the first part of qualifying, I felt that it was working as it should, and I am very pleased with the result.
It will definitely be impossible to compete with the leading drivers of the top teams at the Grand Prix distance, but if I manage to start well, then we will have a chance to earn points. That's exactly how the task is set, I can say for sure.
It's important that I gained some experience during the sprint this morning and I think we did it well. Besides, I enjoyed fighting with other racers. Towards the finish, we were able to run at a very good pace, although everyone had difficulties on this track due to the intense degradation of the rubber.
At the same time, it seems that we handled the problem better than the other teams in the middle of the peloton, but I think that further improvements can be made, and we already have some ideas on how to take the next step forward.
At the beginning of qualifying, I was very comfortable driving, the car had excellent balance, but in the 2nd and 3rd sessions the wind direction changed, and this also affected my feelings during the piloting process.
The final session was very intense, and I'm very happy that I fought with the guys from the top teams, although at the same time I'm not entirely happy with my final attempt, because I think I could have completed the lap even faster."
Yuki Tsunoda (9th): "Today we performed confidently in the sprint, although it was not easy. At the same time, the pace of the car makes a good impression. I thought we were going to have a lot of difficulties during the race, but we held on well and beat several drivers from the top teams. Definitely, I enjoyed it.
Towards the end of the race, the rubber started to deteriorate intensively, which I did not expect, but I am glad that I was able to get the most out of the car and earn a few points, especially since we did not succeed last week.
Speaking of qualifying, I'm happy that both of our cars made it to the final, and we did a great job. We must pay tribute to the team and thank everyone who works on the track and at the base for their efforts – they did a great job!
I had difficulties in the qualifying final. I made a small mistake, I didn't make the best turn 13, I was off the track and couldn't finish the lap. Although up to this point it was going well.
But Isaac showed a very good result and confidently won back. We can definitely claim the points, we just need to apply the right tactics."
