Williams fined 50,000 euros

This weekend, the FIA technical directive TD034L required the teams to install video cameras on the cars to monitor the flexibility of the wing elements. The cameras must be equipped with an SD card, which must then be submitted to the FIA.

"The teams are responsible for ensuring that the cameras are equipped with a formatted (FAT32 or exFAT) and empty SD card at least 10 minutes before the start.

any session during which cameras will be installed," the technical directive said.

There were no memory cards in the cameras on the Williams cars, and no recordings were made. The team believed that memory cards should be presented and installed by the FIA. In the middle of the session, they noticed a red light flashing on the cameras and informed the technical delegate about it, but they didn't know what the flashing light meant, and anyway, by that time it was too late to install SD cards.

When the absence of SD cards was discovered after the end of the session, the team did not inform the technical delegate about it. The FIA considered that the team had not complied with the technical directive, and punished Williams with a fine of 50,000 euros, of which 40,000 euros will be postponed until December 31, 2025 – provided that the team does not commit a similar violation.

The Williams team released a separate statement explaining what happened:

"We had concerns that the cameras were not working during practice, as a result of which we entered into a dialogue with the FIA during the session, as well as analyzing all the procedures ourselves.

And we can state that the failure that caused us to be unable to provide video recordings on time, which occurred due to misunderstandings and internal processes, will definitely be reviewed to avoid its recurrence.…

We have no doubts about the legality of our wing, it is the same wing that was used in Melbourne. It fully complies with the technical regulations, we have not made any changes to it..."
