Schumacher criticizes 'incompetent' Ferrari following double disqualification

The excitement of Lewis Hamilton’s first victory with Ferrari from pole position in the Shanghai sprint was dramatically overshadowed just a day later. Charles Leclerc and Hamilton finished fifth and sixth, respectively, after an early collision in the race, with additional controversy arising when the seven-time world champion was instructed to yield his position. Team principal Frederic Vasseur condemned Formula One Management regarding this directive. "It's a joke from FOM because the idea came from Lewis' side," he stated. "Lewis suggested that we swap. To create confusion and put on a show, they (F1) only broadcast the second part of the narrative. I'll discuss this with them, and while I get your question, please ask Stefano (Domenicali) since I’m not responsible for the broadcast,” the enraged Frenchman added. However, Vasseur was speaking before the FIA scrutineers discovered that both Hamilton and Leclerc’s cars were illegal for completely different reasons. Leclerc’s car was found to be underweight, which Ferrari attributed to excessive tire degradation. There were also claims that Leclerc was missing part of his front wing following the clash with Hamilton. "It's not like that would add up to two kilos," former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher told Sky Deutschland. "They need to consider that just to be safe – at least 1.5 kilos. So, from that perspective, it's simply incompetence," the German continued. Regarding Hamilton’s disqualification, it was determined that the plank had worn beyond the legal limit. "We misjudged the consumption by a small margin," Ferrari stated. "There was no intention to gain any advantage." Schumacher reiterated that there is no justification for this failure. "After the sprint, one would expect the engineer to know what he’s doing," he remarked. "Saturday went well for them, then on Sunday they were slow, and subsequently disqualified. Winning world championships is not possible under these circumstances." The notoriously critical Italian press is starting to express concern. “I feel that the SF-25 is the result of a project that is too complex,” noted prominent journalist Leo Turrini on Sky Italia. “A response is urgently needed – in Japan.”
