Wolff suggests that F1 might include an additional race in China.
"Filled grandstands along the main straight"
Formula 1 may introduce a second grand prix in China, according to Mercedes chief Toto Wolff. It has been revealed that following the Australia-Shanghai double header, Wolff has chosen to skip the upcoming lengthy trip to Japan, which marks the first of a three-race sequence. The Austrian has been opting out of select races in recent years due to the sport’s busy schedule, currently consisting of 24 grand prix events. However, Wolff believes F1 could benefit from a second race in China. "I was on the grid and noticed the filled grandstands along the main straight and into the first corner," he told reporters in Shanghai last Sunday. "The understanding of Formula 1 here is also remarkable. I mean, could there be a second race? I think, 'why not?'" Wolff stated. "It is one of the largest economies in the world. So, yes, if we can maintain the high enthusiasm."
F1’s only Chinese driver, Guanyu Zhou, now acts as a reserve for Ferrari after losing his Sauber position, but he is closely associated with Cadillac for 2026. Notably, Cadillac F1 head Graeme Lowdon is also the manager of the 25-year-old. "I will definitely wait for any opportunity," Zhou mentioned while attending the Chinese GP in Shanghai. "And I’m very pleased, of course, that Graeme is the team principal of Cadillac, but that does not imply anything further. Ultimately, the decision will be made by several individuals."
