Andrea Stella praised Oscar Piastri's progress
In Shanghai, Oscar Piastri started from pole position in a Grand Prix for the first time in his career and won quite confidently, which is in clear contrast to his results at this circuit a year ago. Then the Australian McLaren driver showed 5th time in qualifying and took 8th place on Sunday. We can add that he was seventh in the sprint.
Andrea Stella praised the progress Piastri has made in 12 months. And if Oscar continues to perform at such a high level, he may become one of the main contenders for the championship title.
"His racing skills have grown, and his speed has increased in general," RacingNews365 quotes the McLaren team leader. "At some stages of the race in China, he formulated the questions he asked us very precisely. They were delivered correctly and sounded at the right moments. In general, I also consider this to be a manifestation of his racing skills.
Both our drivers improved during the winter off-season, and we did a lot of work with them. We had to analyze a long list of previous races to understand how we should have acted and what should have been changed in our approaches.
From my point of view, Oscar's progress is most clearly visible if we compare his results with what it was 12 months ago here in China. I still remember that after that race, I had a face-to-face conversation with him, and then we had to, as they say, rack our brains in search of answers to some questions.
We said that there are a lot of lessons to be learned after that race. And now, looking at Oscar's success, I think we drew the right conclusions and took full advantage of that experience."
