Zach Brown on the strategy of destabilizing competitors
In a podcast, McLaren Racing CEO Zach Brown admitted that all means are good for winning in Formula 1 if they give you an advantage.
Zach Brown: "In our sport, perhaps more than in others, the political aspect is important. Everyone is trying to make the car as fast as possible, but there is also a strategy to destabilize competitors.
We are trying to create external pressure, disrupt the work of other teams – this is normal for Formula 1. You are constantly fighting them for employees, riders, and sponsors, and media attention plays an important role in this fight. If you can cause some instability to your opponents, it can slow them down while you focus on speeding up.
Last year, we gained an unexpected advantage when the scandal surrounding Christian Horner arose. They need to sort this out as soon as possible, such headlines are not necessary for modern Formula 1. At McLaren, we place the highest demands on ourselves, on all the men and women in the company. Obviously, diversity, equality and inclusivity are extremely important to us, our partners, and everyone in Formula 1.
I read the Red Bull statement following the investigation, but there were still a lot of rumors, speculation and questions. I think everything should be as transparent as possible in such situations."
